HOW IS HOMEOPATHY RELEVANT TODAY?

Homeopathy is obviously very different from orthodox medicine.  Homeopathic remedies apparently have ‘nothing in them’ so they cannot work.  Indeed, homeopathic remedies cannot possibly work in the same way that orthodox medicine does.  

Medications use strong chemicals to remove symptoms, suppress the disease process and generally prevent the body from doing what it naturally wants to do.  Orthodox medicine is known as allopathy or ‘the Way of Opposites’.

It is believed that homeopathy stimulates the body to return itself to health.  Every cell in your body is blue-printed to keep your body healthy and in balance with the environment.  Symptoms arise when your body is struggling to deal with some sort of imbalance from which it cannot return.  The theory is that homeopathy puts similar energy into the imbalance so nudging the healing systems back into health.  Homeopathy is described as ‘the Way of Similars’ hence similar energy is needed to nudge the body to work its way to health.

Many people today, when they visit their doctor and leave with a prescription, think that the doctor is not getting to the root of their problem.  They may find that the prescribed medication does not help very much and some people find the side effects uncomfortable or worrying.

Homeopathy offers an alternative which is safe, because homeopathy cannot work in the same way as orthodox medicine homeopathy cannot cause the side affects that orthodox medications can cause.

If you go to your doctor about a flare up of your acne or eczema the doctor will spend about 15 minutes with you and give you creams to suppress the eruptions.

If you visit a homeopath, the homeopath will spend about an hour with you and want to know much about you.  The homeopath will be trying to find out why you should have the symptoms now.  What are they related to?  How are you feeling?  What has been going on in your life?  The homeopath will want to know if you have any other symptoms, not apparently related to the acne or eczema you actually want treated.  The homeopath will want to know what problems, illnesses, upsets and traumas you may have experienced in the past.  You may wonder why the homeopath is interested in your headaches, or digestion, or how you sleep, or what makes you angry or happy or sad. The homeopath has a thousand homeopathic remedies to choose from, every single one will have the possibility of clearing your symptoms away but only a very few will actually be effective for you personally.  To decide which homeopathic remedy is suitable for you, the homeopath tries to build up a comprehensive picture of you and who you are.  The homeopath is looking for a homeopathic remedy, that is, a remedy which is similar to you with similar energy to the symptoms you are troubled by.

Homeopathy is especially useful for children.  Unlike adults, children have not experienced years of ill health treated with suppressive medication, or ‘allopathy’.  It is therefore easier for the homeopath to see the child as he or she really is with their symptoms and so choose a homeopathic remedy.  Homeopathy can be used in many different situations and prescribing methods may be different.  Many parents are worried about giving their baby vaccinations, homeopathy can help here.  If you choose not to vaccinate your child it is believed that homeopathy can help to ‘prime’ the immune system to be ready for the disease when it comes along.  It is believed that homeopathy can also help the child cope with the disease should your child become ill.  However, homeopathy does not provide an alternative to vaccination.  Should you decide to go ahead and give the vaccinations to your child, homeopathy can be used before and after which may help to reduce any bad effects of the vaccinations.  A Dutch doctor and homeopath found that there was a high proportion of children who came to see him with recurrent and chronic ‘infections’, runny noses, bad ears etc which would not clear up with orthodox medications such as antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs.  As a homeopath he also tried well indicated homeopathic remedies and found that they were very limited in their action too, in that they did not cure the disease.  It was only once he investigated the vaccinations and used homeopathy around them specifically that he saw dramatic results in his young patients (Dr Tinus Smits)
